Sometimes you just have to enjoy yourself and bask in the creativity of some amazing beat makers. I present you with seven banging make a beat videos featuring a wide assortment of people; from the famous, to some you have likely never heard of before. If you are new to beat making then you might want some inspiration while you go through your learning process. Perhaps you are using Cubase or FL Studio, or even my beat crafting software of choice, DUBturbo. Regardless, you will undoubtedly look to some of the masters of the art for tips and tricks. These guys really know how to compile a nasty beat that will get your head moving.
Pete Rock (Peter Phillips), the famous producer of such hits as “They Reminisce Over You” and “Straighten It Out” shows us how he takes the song “Love Is A Battlefield” by Pat Benatar and makes it his own. If there was one producer to emulate this guy would be it.
Just Blaze (Justin Smith) is a producer, mostly known for his work on a few Jay-Z albums. In this ten minute video he shows us his process of working through a beat. He is using his MPC 4000 to create this wicked beat. Definitely interesting to see a very successful producer slowly building his beat from the foundation up.
DJ Quik (David Martin Blake) is the man behind many classic rap hits, including many of his own albums. In this dark but fun to watch video you can watch Quik play around with a MPC 5000. He really knows his way around the pads, and outright asks Akai to send him one.
Guidry The Hitmaker is the man behind this Dirty South beat that he puts together on his home computer. He uses a keyboard and software to build out this catchy beat. The only thing missing are some lyrics. Maybe you could put your own lyrics to this tight beat.
Here is a different sounding beat, with lots of wicked synth sounds. 2k is the guys name and he is part of the Land Mark Music Group. Watch him create this beat right before your very eyes.
Another dope beat from a German guy named Van. He shows you how he puts together a beat in his home studio.
Marco Polo (Marco Bruno) lets his beat making process be filmed, and talks about how he goes through his many records to find numerous unique sounds. He says that he likes to throw six different record samples on his MPC instead of one record, something that he learned from Pete Rock. This successful beat maker has been crafting beats for over ten years and has become a household name.
Mike Kalombo stretches out imagination and bends our ear with this body moving beat. This beat master really knows how to build a tasty song and have fun while he is doing it. He obviously loves what he does, and the fact that he is part of the So So Def record label proves that this guy knows his craft.
